On the road technology! Active Drive Assist in the truck industry
The world evolves with technology, and so does the trucking industry! Many enterprises are now experimenting with Active Drive Assist. This system is a key milestone in truck construction, as it facilitates partially automated driving in all speed ranges. Active Drive Assist actively supports the driver through longitudinal and lateral guidance of the truck; it can automatically brake and accelerate the vehicle, while also keeping within the proper lane. The driver holds total responsibility for the vehicle’s behavior in traffic and must adapt their driving style to the prevailing traffic situation. Don’t necessarily leave everything to the Drive Assist!
Even on monotonous journeys, the Drive Assist can take the role of a co-pilot to a certain extent, always keeping an eye on you and making slight corrections in good time. In the traffic jam, is it a welcome helper thanks to its stop-and-go function? This new system can ease the workload of truck drivers and prevent road rage or driving exhaustion. The Drive Assist can partially do automated driving in all speed ranges; it’s on as soon as the driver has activated cruise control and set a speed. Active Drive Assist is always on, but the driver can switch it off at any time, so do not worry; you’re still in control!
It’s a very different driving feeling when the Active Drive Assist intervenes. But truck drivers usually come quickly to trust it because the corrections always make sense and improve safety. It has a positive impact on long-distance haulage, less stress while driving, and prevents accidents. Crashes involving commercial vehicles, heavy-duty or medium-duty trucks, are often particularly hazardous. The sensors of the Active Drive Assist are developed especially for heavy-duty trucks that have multi-purpose cameras, front radar, and corner radar that provide the basis for driver assistance functions that enhance safety, efficiency, comfort, and convenience for these kinds of vehicles.
And if all of that wasn’t enough, the system now helps the driver save fuel in rural transport applications as well as on motorways and main roads. Its digitally stored maps now also include country roads. Their geometric parameters of bends, junctions, and roundabouts are now included in the cruise and transmission control, as well as its signage.
Due to its aerodynamic design, the Drive Assist comes with MirrorCam that can also be replaced by the main and wide-angle mirrors. The system comprises two cameras aimed at the rear whose recordings are transmitted to be the A-pillars in the truck. This MirrorCam brings a gigantic improvement in safety and truck handling, a much better all-around view that makes it easier to gauge the traffic behind.
This revolutionary system has changed every truck driver’s life, improved their driving, and reduced their stress levels. There is no doubt that this kind of technology has helped massively to facilitate our lives, and we are eager to see the upcoming versions of the Drive Assist.
