Tip 1: Eat healthy food 

It is alarming how common obesity is among truck drivers. A study by the American Dietetic Association shows that about 86% of truck drivers in the US are obese. This condition leads to many problems like diabetes and high blood pressure. 

To get a healthy or balanced meal on the road, you have two options: prepare your food in the truck or have your meals in a restaurant.

Audiobooks are a great way to learn something new and to entertain your brain. You can find many of these online, and there is a lot of variety: biographies, sci-fi, thriller, romance, to learn a new language or skill, etc. 

A podcast is like a radio show in a digital format. You can find a wide range of topics: entertainment, comedy, news, religion, and a lot more. On some platforms, you can pre-download your podcast episodes in case you have problems with the internet connection on some routes.

 

Tip 3: A well-deserved rest

Resting is very important for the driver’s health and safety.  Even if you are not feeling tired or you do not like the idea of sleeping away from home, you need to take your 30-minute rest break every 5 hours  after driving and the recommended 8 hours at night. If you don’t have a sleeping berth in the truck, find a place where you can rest properly. Resting well will help you obtain that much-needed boost of energy and continue with your activities as usual.

Tip 4: Check your truck periodically 

For your safety and peace of mind, it is a good habit to have a routine inspection routine for your heavy-duty truck. Periodic inspections will help you preventing mechanical damage, save money, and peace of mind when it comes to driving a truck in good condition.
