The transportation of products, materials, and other types of goods across the country is important and necessary for our society. This activity is possible thanks to the hard work of the 3.5 million truck drivers in the U.S. To them, it is more than a job, it’s a lifestyle with good and not so good experiences, but at the end of the day, it is a rewarding job that allows them to provide for their families.

Let’s take a look at a day in the life of a truck driver:

Waking up before dawn!

It will depend on the assignment, but truck drivers usually get up early in the morning between 3 to 5 am. Since most of the time they are held to a tight schedule, it’s important to have enough time to check routes, weather, and truck conditions to drive safely.

Before hitting the road, they usually check the status of the truck: oil levels, tire pressure, tread depth, lights, mirrors, and other parts. If they identify a broken or damaged truck part they will need a replacement. A good option is to buy it online. In websites like IBG Truck Parts, you can find bumpers, grilles, mirrors, headlights, panels, fog lamps, and other parts for your medium-duty and heavy-duty truck. All day on the road

After doing their morning activities, they are ready to spend all day driving. But it is not as boring as it sounds: truck drivers assure that what they like the most about their job is getting the chance to navigate through beautiful and different landscapes, cities, and towns around the country.

Do they have breaks? YES!
According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), drivers are obligated to have a 30-minute break. When they have driven for 8 cumulative hours, without at least a 30-minute interruption, it’s a must to give themselves a break. As we’ve said before, driving is a huge responsibility and the drivers must be well rested, fed, and energized to drive safely and responsibly. This institution has established this and other rules to minimize drowsiness and driver fatigue.

Finally, a well-deserved rest

When the evening falls, it’s finally time to take a pause and find a place to eat and relax a little. Also, if the truck is not designed with a sleeping space, they need to find a place to stay during the night. This is when they have the chance to phone up some family and friends, to watch television, read, or just sleep. The next day, they wake up to their routine all over again.

The hard work that drivers do is admirable. They spend a lot of days away from their families and work a lot of hours.  This is why we always recognize their incredible work!

We respect their job and also share the same love for trucks.
